McBride papers include his 316 page memoir about Company A, 23rd Armored Infantry Regiment, 7th Armored Division, from September 1944 to April 1945 and follows the unit's service from its campaigns in Northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes, and Central Europe until McBride was wounded. The memoir includes observations of African American units who served in the same campaigns with McBride. Collection also includes an article, "The Defense of St. Vith, Belgium 17-23 DECEMBER 1944," published by the Armored School, and two items from a 7th Armored Division reunion. Information on boot packs, African American infantry units, and medical procedures is found in the collection.

Richard L. McBride served as an elisted man during World War II. McBride was stationed at Fort Meade, Maryland, before being sent overseas to Great Britain.
